Spontaneous NYC Trip

For Amy, my good friend’s birthday, we spontaneously decided to go to NYC for the weekend. We left that Friday night and arrived to our hotel (2 free overnight stays in Times Square courtesy of Stacey) around 3:30 am.

We slept in and decided to go to Jacob’s Pickles for brunch… It was 100% worth the long wait. We devoured our chicken and waffle meals that were topped off with candied bacon bits. I HIGHLY recommend going into this restaurant for anyone that is planning a trip to the big apple.

Stacey had never been a Broadway musical, so checking this off of her list was a must. We went into Times Square a found discounted tickets to Hello Dolly. We then visited the freedom tower and an indoor mall that we found before it was time to see the musical. After the show, we walked to Black Tap. This is home to the infamous giant milkshakes that have taken over Instagram and Facebook. I have been wanting to try it for some time now and it was as good as I had imagined. I got the cake shake which had a giant piece of cake on top with sprinkles and all. It was definitely picture worthy.

On Sunday, we woke up at a decent time, checked out of our hotel and loaded the bags in the car. With a few hours to spare before heading home, we explored Central Park, Grand Central Station, and part of SOHO. SOHO is one of my favorite areas in NY, because it is filled with charm and cute little shops. While we were in Grand Central Station, we filled up on savory breakfast sandwiches, old fashioned pretzels, and fluffy banana pudding from the various shops around the food court. I never knew I even liked banana pudding until I tried a cup from Magnolia Bakery.

All in all, my favorite part about the trip was clearly the food. It was fun to be spontaneous and just pack up and leave on Friday after work. I always accept the chance to travel with any chance that I get!
